“Over the Counter Culture” is a digital wunderkammern sporadically maintained by Phil Nichols.

Phil is a PhD candidate in Reading/Writing/Literacy at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also earned an M.A. in History and Sociology of Science. His research centers on the relationships between techno-scientific knowledge production and the ways we practice, teach, and talk about literacy.

He is currently writing a dissertation on the material history of educational “innovation” – particularly focused on the spaces, technologies, and policies of literacy learning in Philadelphia alternative public schools from the 1960s to the present.

He tweets infrequently at @philnichols.
